The Pier's mission is to buttress its customers' unique furnishing style. The Pier is a home furnishings and housewares retailer. The company's wares, which include hand-selected furniture, glassware, textiles, and ornaments, are sold through about 30 storefronts, about 15 concessions (within such department stores as Debenhams and Homebase), and a Web site. Formerly owned by US retailer Pier 1 Imports, The Pier was sold to Palli Limited, a subsidiary of Iceland's Lagerinn, for about $15 million. Jakup Jacobsen, Lagerinn's owner and owner of a 10% stake in Pier 1, considered a bid for Pier 1 Imports, but it didn't pan out. Hit by the global economic downturn, The Pier went into administration in December 2008.
