A film crew was rolling when the head of a California humane society stepped off a plane and delivered J.

The film tells stories of animal lovers who streamed into New Orleans to rescue thousands of stranded pets after the hurricane. It also shows both sides of the ownership disputes that later cropped up between Gulf Coast residents and some of the hundreds of people who adopted pets.

Theda Miller passed away June 1, 2009, in Brookings. She was born in Texas but lived most of her life in California. Theda was married for 59 years to Thomas Miller, who passed away in 2005. Prior to living in Brookings the couple lived in Magalia, Calif.

Surrey animal shelter wins Adoption Challenge

Surrey's SPCA shelter saw a 49 per cent increase in adoptions over its May 2008 total during the SPCA's Adoption Challenge this year. The Surrey shelter found homes for 152 animals, including 33 chickens, compared to 102 animals adoptetd last May.
