There is an old building on Lake Belwood that has been closed down since the 60 s I ve often passed it by always wanting to see inside Well as luck would have it I went for a ride one day a couple of weeks ago and without any real purpose or direction in mind found myself there staring at it I walked around to the back to avoid any hassle with the home owners right next door and found part of the wall torn away and peered inside Parking my bike in the basement I cautiously made my way in to find the neighbour coming up from a hidden staircase and froze For all I knew he owned the property I said my country style hello and asked if he minded if I took some photos quot Oh you go right ahead quot he replied quot I reckon it s coming down today quot I asked him if he knew what it was once used for and he told me it was a feed mill and that it had closed down long ago The place was pretty much just three floors of open rooms and no walls left to speak of The floor was littered with old books and magazines from the late fifties to the eraly 70 s Tons of Popular Electronics magazines from the 60 s in mint condition A couple of more contempory bicycles and a few old radios and other such junk I roamed around taking photos when after about 10 minutes a truck arrived and two young men hopped out carrying crowbars and chainsaws We all chatted a few moments and the three of them staked their claims amongst themselves on who was taking what home with them The only thing I was really interested in were the Popular Electronics and Ham Radio magazines and perhaps the Archie comics but one of the younger men had already packed them up for himself Sure enough they informed me that they were there to remove any wooden boards suitable for hardwood flooring and that after two days of that the building would be flattened and hauled away Talk about timing A few days before and it would have been locked up tight A few days later and it would be gone forever and only a mysterious memory from c
